Bookstore Sales Rose 28% in 2021
An article in Publishers Weekly yesterday reported that bookstore sales last year had almost bounced back to pre-Covid 2019 levels, which is great news and a significant improvement of on 2020 - a disaster of a year for in-person book sales for obvious reasons.

The pre-Christmas figures were particularly encouraging, with December bookstore sales increasing by 33.6% over December 2020, rising to $1.20 billion from $900 million the year before. The 28% increase in bookstore sales for 2021 was higher than the 19.3% increase for the retail sector overall. This is all very encouraging for authors and publishers alike!
